TECH ACADEMIES OF INNOVATION COMING TO JULIA BALDWIN ELEMENTARY 2016-2017
The Smarter Balanced Assessment System utilizes computer adaptive tests and performance tasks that allow students to show what they know and are able to do. This system is based on the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for English–language arts (ELA) and mathematics.
The Asset Building Champions (ABC) and Los Dichos parent engagement programs, in which adults learn to create positive connections with their own children and youth in the community, and volunteer at schools reading specially selected books and leading activities that help teach valuable lessons. The Spanish-language Los Dichos program opens new doors for parents from diverse cultures to support their children’s school success as well as the healthy development of all young people in their communities.
The Oak Grove School District Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Program is open to students who turn five years old between September 2 and December 2.
Transitional Kindergarten is a two-year optional kindergarten experience that gives students the “gift of time” to develop foundational behaviors, skills, and attitudes to promote competence and confidence in kindergarten and throughout their comprehensive school experience.
The Annual Julia Baldwin Community Service Award was created to "Honor the Heart" by encouraging volunteerism in the Baldwin Community. The Julia Baldwin Community Service Award is meant to acknowledge and promote community service and will be given to students who have shown exceptional interest in helping others by demonstrating selfless giving of their time to the community.
The Sobrato Early Academic Language pilot (SEAL) is designed as a comprehensive model of intensive, enriched language and literacy education designed for English language learners, starting in preschool and continuing through third grade. The SEAL model was designed by Dr. Laurie Olsen, a national expert in English language learner education. A national advisory groupprovided initial input, and continues to advise the project as the model evolves.
Every Step Up strategy is built to support specific standards in the areas of writing, vocabulary, language, reading, and speaking & listening. The intent is to provide the scaffolding and instructional sequence to support for students to becomes independent writers who write with increasing sophistication.
